Glacier Discovery Float This is our most popular trip. Join us on the Alaska Railroad for a beautiful ride to Spencer Glacier. Enjoy lunch on a beach complete with a spectacular glacier view. This is the Alaskan experience that you always pictured in your minds eye. Experience steel blue glacier ice up close and personal!
Your trip will start on the train which can be boarded in Anchorage, Girdwood, Whittier, or at the Portage Station. For those who depart by rail from Anchorage the train will travel south along the Turnagain Arm for 50 miles.
Guests disembark the train in the ultra-scenic Placer valley at Spencer Lake. After a brief motor transport to Spencer Lake we start the tour with a deli-style lunch on the banks of the lake. After lunch the raft is launched. Spencer Lake is full of icebergs that crumble from the glacier. The ice is so close you can touch it (however for safety reasons it may not always be advisable to do so). Relax as your guide navigates the raft down the Placer River through spirited Class I (maybe II) rapids that are fun but mild. Take photos or just enjoy the wildness of it all.
You shouldn’t expect to get wet except for an occasional small splash. After this amazingly scenic float, you'll get back on the train and return to your point of origin. This trip is tons of fun for the whole family!
All gear is provided for a safe and comfortable trip. Those wishing to actively participate may find our Glacier Explorer Canoe Trip more appropriate, as you get to paddle.
