1st Canyon : The 1st Canyon of the Six Mile is offered to beginners and families, and must be run by our other paddlers going for the 2nd and 3rd Canyons as well.  It is ranked a solid class III run, with one section that ranges from class III – class V depending on the water level. The trip starts with learning to paddle on some swift water, gradually increasing in rapids action.  About 3 miles in to the trip the river squeezes through a narrow section of canyon and this is where the “with a hike” comes in.  As this section may be class III – V, in the interest of safety, we may choose to walk around it instead of run it (depends on participants as well as river level).  At ultra-high water everyone (even the guides) walk around it, at high water only the guides run it, at moderate high water only the people willing to assume a 50-50 chance of a flip run it, and finally, at moderate water it reverts to class III status where it is deemed suitable for beginners and kids of certain ages and most everyone runs it.  No one is ever required to run it, one can always walk around.  After that, it is rock-and-roll for another mile and then play time!  Enjoy a refreshing voluntary swim or a water fight with the other rafts.  Paddle by a plainly visible eagle's nest.  Your trip ends after a total of about 5 miles (6 at high-water).

At this point, participants who signed up for 2 and 3 Canyons (and those who signed up for only 1 but who now want to add-on the 2nd) continue down the river.  1st Canyon only participants are shuttled back to their vehicle.

The 2nd Canyon adds another 2.5 miles to the trip, and steps the paddler up a level of difficulty.  The 2nd Canyon is ranked solid class III+ and IV and combines 4 big drops in rapid succession with other smaller rapids to keep you on your toes.

At this point, participants who signed up for 3 Canyons (and those who only signed up for 2 but who now want to add-on the 3rd) must get in the river in their river gear and pass a swim test in order to continue down the river in to the 3rd Canyon.  2nd Canyon only participants are shuttled back to their vehicle.

The 3rd Canyon of the Six Mile is our thriller!  It adds another 3.5 miles of river to the trip and has enough class IV and V rapids on it at all water levels to make it Alaska's premier whitewater paddle-rafting run.  The 3rd Canyon add-on is $45, bringing the total cost of the Six Mile River Trip, all 3 Canyons, up to $135.  Not bad for a full day of fun and an experience of a life time!
